Northport Elementary Proposed School Hours & Walk Zone Survey for 2025-26

Dear Northport Elementary Families,

We are looking to get your feedback on proposed changes for the 2025-26 school year regarding school hours and walk zone distances. Your input is important to us, as we consider these adjustments.

Proposed Changes:

• School Hours:
  • We are considering adjusting the school hours to 7:40 am - 2:00 pm.
  • This represents a shift of starting 5 minutes earlier and ending 5 minutes earlier than the current schedule.
  • The reasons for this proposed change are:
    • To align elementary school hours with middle school hours.
    • To reduce the number of bus routes, leading to cost savings.

• Walk Zone Distances:
  • We are proposing to increase the walk zone distances as follows:
    • Elementary Schools: from 0.5 mile to 0.8 mile.
    • Middle Schools: from 0.7 mile to 1.0 mile.
    • High Schools: will remain at 1.0 mile.
  • These changes are estimated to save approximately $900,000 in transportation costs.
