Celebrating Minnesota’s American Indian Month
The month of May is an important time for Minnesota’s Indigenous community: it’s American Indian Month in our state. As a way to celebrate, Rdale hosted its annual powwow at Armstrong High School on May 6.
With some 300 people in attendance, the event featured singing and dancing, a community dinner, and a celebration of Native American student graduates. An exciting addition was a Princess and Brave contest and the screening of Oyate, a documentary about the people of Standing Rock as they defended their land and water from the threat of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
