Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) is proud to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Schools throughout the district highlight and recognize this special heritage month in a variety of ways, including cultural displays, performances and learning opportunities.
For example, Rdale’s Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (RSIS) is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with multiple events during the annual commemoration. On Tuesday, Sept. 17, members of the Mexico Azteca Ballet Folklorico company performed at the RSIS Back-to-School social. Enjoy photos from the performance and see images of some of the company’s other performances in their online gallery.
This is a time to honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Here in Rdale, many teachers offer lessons geared toward Hispanic Heritage, as well as school-specific offerings to celebrate and acknowledge Hispanic and Latino students, staff and community members.
Reading up on Hispanic Culture
One of the best ways to introduce your children to cultures different from their own is to read about them together. For this National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), the Children’s Book Council has assembled a list of 24 books, which you can find here, recommended primarily for younger children, along with other resources for celebrating Hispanic heritage.
