Turnaround arts at Northport Elementary
Northport elementary is excited to announce that we have been selected as one of 35 Turnaround Arts Schools around the country. This is a national program by the President’s Committee on the Arts and on the Humanities, and it involves partnering with local, state and national organizations to provide a variety of arts experiences for students.
Turnaround Arts is a public-private partnership that uses the arts to help narrow the achievement gap, increase student engagement and improve the culture and climate in the country’s highest poverty schools .
Through these partnerships we have received the following support:
- Visual art materials
- Musical instruments
- Arts integration specialists
- Production rights for the musical Annie
- Professional Development for staff
- Teaching artists (including visits from high-profile artists throughout the year)
As a Turnaround Arts School, we will be able to enrich our literacy curriculum in addition to providing extracurricular experiences for students. We have set goals to not only integrate the arts throughout our school, but to also increase family and community involvement. We are excited to have this opportunity to enrich the lives of our students through the arts, and we look forward to seeing the benefits of an arts education in our school community.
